Who we are

Asclepiad is made by Asclepeion Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (Companies House 15830285) at 27 Old Gloucester Street, London WC1N 3AX. We are the data controller for everything the app and this website process. Our Data Protection Officer is Terracloud Technology Ltd, reachable at dpo@asclepeion.org. We are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office, reference ZB723138.

What we do not collect

Your email address, phone number, address, full date of birth or photo (beyond one you choose to add to a gift), or anything that identifies you outside the app. There is no sign-up. A guest may ask what to call you; if you tell it, that stays in the session and is not kept by us unless you choose to save it. When you install the app it creates an account on your phone with a random identifier, and that is the only account there is.

What we hold, and for how long

  • Your account identifier, for as long as the account exists. When you install the app you tell it the year you were born; the app turns that into your age and does not keep the year. The age is how the app knows it is for adults, and we do not check it. For a session on your own, your age is sent with the session and kept with its line below. Your language and the country you choose stay on your phone; the country is used to show you the right emergency numbers.
  • If you turn on notifications, your phone's notification address, region and time zone. Turning notifications off removes them when your phone is online; deleting your account always does.
  • A line about each session — which occasion, which guest, alone or together, your age for a session on your own, how long, how it ended, and what it cost us to run. Kept so we can price sessions fairly, until you delete the account. None of the words of the session are in it.
  • The gift a session leaves — a recipe, a letter, a plan, a picture, a story, a song — for seven days, so you can save or share it. Then it is deleted from our storage by an automatic clear-out. A photo you add to a gift is used in one of two ways. For a letter to a friend, the photo is sent to an image service to be painted; we delete your original as soon as the painting is made, and at the latest after seven days, and the painting stays with the gift for those seven days. For a reflective art gift, your picture goes into the gift as it is and is deleted with it after seven days. A link you share shows what the gift shows.
  • Your feedback after a session, as you wrote it, with a copy that has names removed. Nothing deletes it on a schedule yet; when that changes, this notice will say for how long.
  • Support messages you send from the app, and our replies, until you delete the account.
  • What you choose to remember after a session lives on your phone only, until you remove it. A guest reads it only in a session on your own, never with others at the table. The suggestions of what to remember pass through our server to reach you, and are deleted from it within a day. In a session on your own, what you chose to remember is sent with the session to the services above so the guest can use it.
  • AsclepiCoin transactions — amounts and times, never card details — kept in anonymised form after deletion for accounting.
  • Consent records — the time and version of what you agreed to — until you delete the account.
  • Technical records — our servers keep logs of requests and errors, which can include your account or session number, and for a web lookup the words searched. Your network address is held for about an hour to stop abuse. We have not yet set how long the logs are kept. We also keep a timing file for each session, with no words in it, on our own computer; it is not deleted automatically.

What is never kept

  • No voiceprint, no face data, no attempt to tell who is speaking.

Who processes your words

To speak with a guest, what you say goes to these services:

  • LiveKit carries the audio of a session.
  • AssemblyAI and ElevenLabs turn your speech into text during a session; a session uses one or the other.
  • ElevenLabs also speaks the guests' replies, and turns speech into text for dictation in Help.
  • Anthropic writes the guests' replies, suggests what to remember and answers Help. Anthropic may not use what you say to train its systems. When a guest looks something up on the web, the guest's model writes the search from your session, so it can include something you said, and Anthropic's search tool runs it.
  • Replicate runs the picture-making models for the pictures a session or gift shows. It receives the picture request and, if you add a photo, the photo.
  • Cloudflare runs our servers and storage. Expo sends reminders. Apple and Google take payments in the app.

Talking with a guest on this website

Some pages let you talk with a guest by voice or by typing. The guest is an AI. Nothing about the chat loads until you choose to start one, and you give no name, email or account to do it.

What you say or type goes to ElevenLabs, who carry the conversation for us: they turn your voice into text and, in a spoken chat, the guest's reply into speech. The guest's replies are written by a Google model (Gemini), which ElevenLabs uses for us. The guest is told which page you are on and which experiences it lists, so it can talk about them. Chats on this website are for adults, 18 and over.

ElevenLabs keep the words of the chat, never a recording of your voice, for 30 days, so we can check that the guest behaves as it should. Then they are deleted.

Once you start a chat, the chat window remembers two things on your device: the language you used, and that you accepted ElevenLabs' terms. If your browser blocks that kind of storage, it keeps one display setting in a cookie instead. If you never start a chat, none of this happens.

Training

Anthropic may not use what you say to train its systems. Our accounts with AssemblyAI and ElevenLabs are set so they may not use your speech to train their models. For ElevenLabs this applies from 8 October 2026 and not to anything before it.

The guests are AI

Every guest in the app is an AI: generated language and a generated voice. They are companions for a session, not people, not doctors, not counsellors, and nothing they say is medical, legal or financial advice.

Safety

No separate system scans what you say for distress, and nothing is reported to anyone. The guest itself reads and responds to what you say, and an SOS control is on screen throughout every session. It opens emergency and helpline numbers: for the countries we list it shows that country's helplines, elsewhere the emergency number.

Why we are allowed to do this

Running your account and your sessions: our contract with you. Sending your words to the services above, which is how a session runs: our contract with you.Keeping the service working and safe: our legitimate interest. Keeping consent records: our legal obligation.

Where it is processed

Cloudflare runs our servers and storage. Anthropic, AssemblyAI and ElevenLabs are in the United States and process your words there. Replicate, which runs the picture-making models, may process them in the United States or elsewhere. Ask us at dpo@asclepeion.org and we will tell you which safeguard covers each.

Your rights

  • Delete your account, any time, from Profile in the app. That deletes your sessions, support messages, notification details and anything tied to your account. Records of coin purchases and feedback you wrote about stories stay with the link to you removed. Copies held by the services above and in our backups and logs are not reached by the button; write to dpo@asclepeion.org and we will tell you what each holds.
  • Ask what we hold and get a copy, ask us to correct it, or object to processing: write to dpo@asclepeion.org. Because we cannot identify you, the request has to come from inside the app (see below).
  • Withdraw your consent. Today that means deleting the account from Profile.
  • Complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, or to your own country's authority.

We cannot identify you, so to ask what we hold, copy your account ID from Profile in the app and email it to dpo@asclepeion.org. We reply with what we hold within one month of your email.

Children

The app is for adults: when you install it you tell us the year you were born, and it does not go on unless that makes you eighteen or over. We do not check it. A session with a few people at the table may include someone under eighteen only when an adult at that table has confirmed it, and nothing from such a session is kept.

The research study

This is optional. You can use the whole app without it, and leave it whenever you like. If you join, we ask four short questionnaires about how you are doing, over six months. We publish what we find with everyone's answers together, and you are not in it. We count how many sessions you do and compare that with your answers, to see whether using the app more goes together with better outcomes. What you say in a session is never part of the research. Each of these three things is its own tick, and nothing is ticked for you.

Joining is your choice. As a thank-you you get 60 coins for each of the four questionnaires. If you join, your answers are kept in the app's database under a research number, not under your name. A separate record ties that number to your account, so that your answers can be found if you ask for them to be erased. Our team and the AI agents that run Asclepiad can reach that database. We have not yet set a date when answers are deleted; until we do, they stay until you erase them or delete your account.

You can withdraw and erase your answers in the app whenever you like. That deletes every answer you gave and breaks the tie to your account; only a count of how many people took part remains. If your answers show you are struggling, the last screen shows help numbers for your country. Nobody is told, and nobody reads your answers as they arrive.

Changes

If this notice changes in a way that matters, the app will show you the new version and ask you to agree again before your next session.
