Many ways of knowing
The guests draw on stories, science, craft and quiet, and none of them is asked to stand in for the others. Here is why we kept them side by side.

One of our six values reads: science and story, reason and intuition, tradition and experiment, different ways of knowing, none asked to stand in for the others. It is easy to agree with and harder to build, so it is worth saying what it looks like in practice.
Four guests, four ways
Hortus knows through story. He tells an old tale plainly and trusts you to take what you need from it. He does not explain it, because an explanation would be him doing your thinking.
Heron knows through evidence. He is a colleague who gives you references so you can check every word, and who will say "that is not established" when it is not. When the honest answer is "we do not know", he says that.
Maia knows through attention. She asks the right question and then waits, and lets silence do its work. Her skill is a craft more than a body of facts.
Chi knows through practice. He gives you one thing to notice and the room to notice it. What he offers cannot be handed over as information. It has to be done.
Why not choose one
A place built only on science would be accurate and cold. A place built only on story would be warm and could say anything it liked. A place built only on quiet would never tell you a fact. Each way of knowing is good at something and bad at something else, and each tends to be most trusted by the people it suits.
Because all of them are here, the room is not left to one. Neither the evidence nor the story wins by default.
What it means for you
You do not have to believe in any one of them. You can come for the story and never ask for a reference, or come for the evidence and skip the stories. No guest is there to tell you the others are wrong. And no guest will pretend to be more than what it is: every one of them is an AI, and you are told before you start.
We are not trying to pick the best way of knowing. We are trying to keep the room large enough for all of them.
